March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. As a colon cancer survivor, I have decided to revisit and continue sharing my personal cancer journey along with some general colon cancer information.

I will be re-sharing some previous writings about my cancer journey throughout this month, as well as sharing some new pieces regarding my continuous walk as a cancer survivor.

Here are some quick facts:
-Colon cancer is the SECOND leading cancer killer (of those that affect males and females) in the United States
-Screening recommended to start at age 45 for those without risk factors
-Screening can find precancerous polyps that can be removed before they turn into cancer
-This cancer doesn't always cause symptoms, especially in early stages, so regular screening is EXTREMELY important

If you really want to dig into the scientific details, here is the CDC link all about colorectal cancer.

Come back here twice each week this month to follow my personal colon cancer journey from initial wonky bloodwork to a year of clear scans.

Are you 45 or older? Stop making excuses and get screened for colorectal cancer!
